Synopsis

This worktext on Basic Calculus is designed particularly for senior high school students under the K – 12 Basic Education Curriculum. The contents are parallel to the learning competency as indicated in the curriculum guide for Basic Calculus. It also aims to prepare them for higher education which is one of the thrusts of the K – 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

In every chapter , there is the introduction of mathematical concepts and followed by several illustrative examples. This provides the students better understanding and appreciation of the lessons. Sufficient exercises for home studies are provided in each chapter to further strengthen and test the students’ understanding of the topics. Hence, students are given the opportunity to assess their understanding of the concepts.

Author Biographies

DR. Elvira C. Catolos, University of Rizal System

Dr. Elvira C. Catolos finished her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. She earned her Master of Engineering Education, major in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City as an EDPITAF scholar and her Doctorate Degree in Educational Management from the University of Rizal System where she was an Academic Excellence and Best Research Award Recipient. She was given recognition by the Guronasyon Foundation, Inc., Province of Rizal, as the 2014 Most Outstanding College Faculty and by the Local Government Unit of Tanay, Province of Rizal as the 2015 Natatanging Anak ng Tanay sa Larangan ng Edukasyon.

Furthermore, she was awarded by La Consolacion University Philippines in Malolos, Bulacan as the Most Innovative La Consolacion Researcher during the 2013 International Conference on Innovative Researches, Inc. At present, she is a professor of Mathematics at the undergraduate and graduate levels of URS-Morong Campus. She developed instructional materials in mathematics and authored books in Plane and Spherical Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, General Mathematics for Senior High School and Mathematics in the Modern World.

DR. Jenisus O. Dejarlo, University of Rizal System

Dr. Jenisus O. Dejarlo holds Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) major in Mathematics Education, Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) major in Mathematics, and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSE) major in Mathematics and receives a distinction as Cum Laude. Moreover, he served as lecturer in the Licensure Examination for Teacher (LET) Review in the areas: Assessment of Learning and General Mathematics at URSM under the Center for Lifelong Learning. Also, he developed instructional materials in mathematics and coauthored books in General Mathematics and Statistics and Probability and Basic Calculus for Senior High School.

At present, he is the Department Head of the Senior High School of the University of Rizal System – Morong Campus and a faculty of the Graduate School and the College of Education of the same University.
